Spa: architecture to relax

Spa and architecture melt together into perfect harmony! Minimalistic design concepts favor meditative calm and offer a relaxing atmosphere for sensuality.

The success of Luxembourg’s spa oasis can be found in the analysis of how the environment of a human needs to be in order to feel healthy and happy. Already during the phase of planning, influences from the environment, the landscape and the cardinal direction are evaluated by rules of harmony. For each sauna, an individual space concept is developed.

A flying sauce in the urban zone of Luxembourg? “Les Thermes” in Bertrange/Strassen may suspect it due to its futuristic architecture. This architectural masterpiece – a work from the famous Luxembourgian architects Clemes, Wiltry & Wiltry and Hermann & Valentiny – stands in the middle of a big park. The giant slide comes out of the huge glass front like a curved finger. The interior bathes in the sunlight which lights the whole up. The inhabitants of this flying saucer are families who enjoy the water and waves or the health conscious sauna-fans, dreaming of aromatic showers to escape from the everyday life. This is what the architects achieve: everyone gets in another world with the flying saucer! www.lesthermes.lu

A huge shell in the European district in Luxembourg City? The renowned architect Roger Taillibert did not miss imagination while developing this sport-, swim- and spa-center “Coque” at Kirchberg in Luxembourg City. Of course shells are part of water and so do they of the swimming pool with Olympic dimensions. Prestressed concrete visualize this idea in the most modern and formative way. Part of the spa is also a very special ice grotto. www.coque.lu

In the north of the capital of Luxembourg, in Walferdange, you find the PIDAL. Minimalistic architecture with an influence of Zen fascinates as well as the huge park with several sauna pavilions. The architectural highlight is the levitating wave pool on the roof of the complex. It is not only a paradise for families with children but also for adult sauna-lovers.

Domaine Thermal: even though the tradition of the thermal bath in Mondorf-les-Bains dates back to 1847, the fitness- and sauna facilities are part of the most modern ones in Luxembourg. Water, light and warmth let the body relax in an oriental designed atmosphere. The thermal pool combines the indoor with the outdoor facilities which fusion with the impressive garden from Eduard André (XIX century). www.mondorf.lu
